FAQ

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a sprint-like innovation event where you’ll be challenged to work in teams on a unique solution for a short period of time. You’ll be able to challenge yourself, collaborate with new friends on innovative projects and, most importantly, have tons of fun.

Who can join Hack the Journey?

Hack the Journey! is open to everyone over 18 years of age who want to build innovative solutions in the travel world. Developers, designers, entrepreneurs, travel professionals, … everyone is welcome!

How can I register to participate?

To join the hackathon, just fill out in the application form here. Keep in mind that spaces are limited, and we can’t guarantee a spot for everyone who signs up.

Is there a selection process?

Yes. As we’ve got limited space and are looking to create teams with diverse profiles, we may not be able to confirm everyone who registers.

How are teams formed?

Each team can have up to 6 members. If you know people you’d like to work with, you can form a team once you have all registered. Otherwise you’ll be assigned to one.

Can I register alone?

Sure! If you want, you will be able to create or join a team before the event.

How does judging work?

Good question! For the grand prize, apps will be judged on the following criteria:

- Best integration of Amadeus Self-Service APIs

- Technical skill, elegance and scalability

- Degree of creativity and innovation

- Impact of the idea

- Business potential

Judging criteria for partner challenges will be defined by the challenge sponsor.

What equipment will I need for the hackathon?

You should bring your laptop and a charger, as well as any other hardware you may need.

Will meals be provided?

Absolutely! We’ll provide two breakfasts, two lunches and dinner on the first night of the hackathon. Free snacks and drinks will be available throughout the event.

Can I hack through the night?

You can, just not at the venue! The Microsoft Reactor London space will be closed from 10:00pm to 09:00am.

Who owns the IP?

Your application belongs to you. If one of the sponsoring partners sees that your idea has potential for further development, they’ll engage with you directly and discuss the details of a possible collaboration.
